About the Hespérides A-33 Ship

The Oceanographic Research Vessel (B.I.O.) Hespérides A-33 is the flagship of the Spanish Navy dedicated to polar and oceanographic scientific research. Launched in 1990, this 82-meter-long vessel has carried out more than 30 Antarctic campaigns, being fundamental for Spanish research on the white continent. The Hespérides participates in the Spanish Antarctic Program, supporting the Juan Carlos I and Gabriel de Castilla scientific bases, and contributing to global scientific knowledge on oceanography, marine biology, geology, and climate change. Its name honors the mythical Hesperides of Greek mythology, guardians of the garden of golden apples.
