History of the De Havilland Mosquito

The De Havilland Mosquito was one of the most innovative aircraft of World War II. Designed as a fast unarmed bomber that relied on its speed to evade enemy fighters, the Mosquito proved so versatile that it served as a bomber, night fighter, fighter-bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, and maritime attack aircraft.

"The Wooden Wonder"

Built primarily from plywood (balsa and birch), the Mosquito was nicknamed "The Wooden Wonder." This non-metallic construction allowed its production without affecting the supply of aluminum for other aircraft.
