History of the Fw 190 D "Dora"
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D, nicknamed "Dora" or "Langnasen-Dora" (Long-nose Dora) due to its elongated nose, was developed in 1944 in response to the need for a high-altitude fighter. With a Junkers Jumo 213 in-line engine instead of the BMW 801 radial, the Fw 190 D was superior to almost all Allied fighters at high altitudes.
